Some journeys are not merely about reaching a destination; they carry within them a story of hard work, struggle, dreams and the determination to turn those dreams into reality. The journey of Dr. Makhdoom Syed Hussain Sheheryar Bukhari is one such story—one that began in Rahim Yar Khan and extended to the educational and international environment of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Born on April 8, 2002, Dr. Sheheryar has demonstrated from an early age that success does not have to remain confined to a single field. Medicine became his primary professional identity, but his ambitions led him into several other areas, including student leadership, diplomacy, human rights, youth representation and public health.
A DOCTOR WHOSE VISION GOES BEYOND THE CLINIC
Dr. Sheheryar pursued General Medicine at International Medical University in Bishkek. Studying abroad gave him not only an opportunity to gain medical knowledge but also valuable exposure to different nationalities, cultures and social environments.
During his medical education, his strong performance in the Hematology Olympiad, participation in hepatitis awareness campaigns, and involvement in international health observances such as International Childhood Cancer Day, World Parkinson’s Disease Day and Purple Day reflected his growing interest in public health.
For him, medicine is not simply about diagnosing illnesses and prescribing treatment. It is also about prevention, public awareness and contributing to a healthier society.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP THAT SHAPED HIS PERSONALITY
Alongside his academic journey, Dr. Sheheryar became actively involved in student leadership. As President of the IMU Student Senate, he played a role in student representation, addressing student concerns and strengthening communication among different groups.
His responsibilities as Vice President and Head/Minister of Public Relations provided him with practical experience in decision-making, teamwork, administration and effective communication.
In recognition of his academic and leadership performance, he received honors including Best Leader, Best President, Best Semester Representative, and Best Student of the Batch 2020–2025 — Award of Excellence.
Yet the true strength of leadership lies not in a title but in the trust placed in a leader. His activities during his student years reflected an approach to leadership focused on collective representation rather than personal status.
BUILDING BRIDGES BETWEEN CULTURES
Creating cultural harmony among students from different countries and regions was another important aspect of Dr. Sheheryar’s activities in Bishkek.
Being recognized with the Best Diplomat award represents another significant milestone in this area of his development.
The fact that a young medical professional has also developed an interest in diplomacy and international affairs reflects the changing demands of the modern world, where professionals increasingly need to understand not only their own fields but also the global environment around them.
A COMMITMENT TO EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE
Pakistan’s future is closely connected to its youth. Young people need more than education and employment opportunities; they also need awareness of leadership, civic responsibility, human rights and policymaking.
As President of the National Youth Parliament South Punjab and Executive Member of the Youth Assembly for Human Rights (YAHR), Dr. Sheheryar has been involved in initiatives aimed at youth representation and social awareness.
These activities seek to connect young people with dialogue, leadership, human rights and civic responsibility, encouraging them to become active participants rather than passive observers in the future decision-making process.
MOVING TOWARD PUBLIC HEALTH
Public Health holds an important place in Dr. Sheheryar’s future vision. Health challenges in Pakistan cannot be viewed only through the lens of major urban hospitals.
Basic healthcare facilities in rural areas, public awareness, disease prevention, youth health and equal access to medical services are issues that require sustained attention.
In this context, Dr. Sheheryar’s interest in Public Health reflects a broader understanding that a doctor’s role does not end with treating individual patients. Medical professionals can also contribute to improving the overall health system of society.
